「隨便」別說 Whatever!美國人聽到以為你在生氣,都可以要這樣講

2026 09 21 en whatever Daily English | 生活英語

同事問 “What do you feel like for dinner?”,你想說「隨便,都可以」,脫口就是 “Whatever.”——對方愣了一下:“Did I do something?”

單獨一句 Whatever. 在美國人耳裡是「隨便啦,懶得理你」,帶翻白眼的那種。中文的「隨便、都可以」要說 I’m easy./Either works./You pick.;whatever 要用,後面一定接東西:Whatever you want.

💡 先搞懂:為什麼 whatever 會惹到人

中文的「隨便」是好意:你選就好、我都配合。但英文的 whatever 單獨當一句話講,尤其配上平平的語氣或聳肩,意思是「隨便啦、我不在乎、別煩我」——是吵架快結束時翻白眼的那個字。你以為在表達「都可以」,對方收到的是「你不高興」。美國人表達「都可以」有一整組好用的話:I’m easy(我很好搞定)、Either works(哪個都行)、You pick(你選)、Up to you(看你)、I’m good with anything(什麼都可以)。至於 whatever,只要後面接東西就變禮貌:Whatever you want、Whatever works for you。

台灣人最容易卡的雷:① 單獨一句 Whatever.(=懶得理你)→ I’m easy./Either works.;② I don’t care.(朋友間可以,但容易像「我不在乎」)→ I don’t mind./I’m good with anything.;③ 想用 whatever 就接東西:Whatever you want.

場景:週五下班前,Anna 跟美國同事 Ben 約晚餐;Ben 問想吃什麼,Anna 把中文的「隨便」直接翻成 Whatever,Ben 以為她不高興,邊解釋邊教她怎麼講。

Ben

So, dinner tonight. What do you feel like? Tacos, ramen, that new Thai place?

今晚吃飯,妳想吃什麼?塔可、拉麵,還是那間新開的泰式?

Anna

Whatever.

隨便。(單獨一句 Whatever,聽起來像「隨便啦,懶得理你」)

Ben

Whoa. Did I do something? You sound kind of annoyed.

哇,我做錯什麼了嗎?妳聽起來有點不耐煩。

Anna

What? No! I mean I’m fine with anything. You choose.

什麼?沒有啊!我是說我都可以,你選。

Ben

Oh, okay. Just so you know, whatever by itself sounds like you’re rolling your eyes at me.

喔,好。跟妳說一下,whatever 單獨講,聽起來像妳在對我翻白眼。

Anna

Really? In Chinese it just means anything’s fine. So what do I say instead?

真的嗎?中文的「隨便」就只是「都可以」的意思。那我該說什麼?

Ben

Say I’m easy, or either works, or just you pick. Or whatever you want, that one’s fine because you added the you want part.

說 I’m easy(我都好),或 either works(哪個都行),或直接 you pick(你選)。或者 whatever you want 也行,因為後面加了 you want。

Anna

Got it. I’m easy. Honestly, you pick, I’m good with anything.

懂了。我都好。真的,你選,我什麼都可以。

Ben

See, now you sound like a friend, not like you’re mad at me. Thai it is.

你看,這樣才像朋友在講話,不像在生我的氣。那就泰式。

Anna

Sounds good. And sorry about the whatever thing.

好啊。然後,剛剛那句 whatever 抱歉啦。

🎯 30 秒快速複習

中文「隨便、都可以」=I’m easy / Either works / You pick / Up to you / I’m good with anything;whatever 單獨一句是「懶得理你」,要用就接東西:Whatever you want / Whatever works for you。I don’t care 朋友間可以,正式一點用 I don’t mind。

①都可以=I’m easy.
②哪個都行=Either works.
③你選=You pick.
④看你=Up to you.
⑤什麼都可以=I’m good with anything.
⑥好啊=Sounds good.
⑦要用就接東西=Whatever you want.
⑧別單獨說 Whatever.(=懶得理你)

下次這樣說 Next Time

「隨便」最常踩的三個雷,換成這樣說就不會被誤會。

① 被問想吃什麼

❌ 中文腦會說

Whatever.

想說「隨便,都可以」

✅ 該這樣說

I’m easy. You pick.

我都好,你選

為什麼:單獨一句 Whatever 是「隨便啦、懶得理你」,對方會以為你在生氣;I’m easy 是「我很好配合」,You pick 把選擇權交出去,兩句都是好意。

② 兩個選項都可以

❌ 中文腦會說

I don’t care.

想說「我沒差」

✅ 該這樣說

Either works.

哪個都行

為什麼:I don’t care 美國朋友之間可以講,但語氣一硬就變「我不在乎」;Either works(兩個都行)或 I don’t mind 聽起來才是「我都配合」。

③ 想用 whatever

❌ 中文腦會說

Whatever. (shrug)

單獨一句加聳肩

✅ 該這樣說

Whatever you want.

後面接東西就變禮貌

為什麼:whatever 本身不是壞字,壞在單獨講;接上 you want / works for you / you’re in the mood for,意思就變成「你想要什麼都好」。

重點單字 Vocabulary Boost

whatever/wʌtˈevər/

Pizza or sushi? I’m flexible.(披薩還是壽司?我都可以。)

either works/ˈiːðər wɜːrks/

兩個都行。

Six or seven? Either works.(六點還是七點?都可以。)

重點句型 Sentence Patterns

1. 都可以 → I’m easy. / I’m good with anything.

被問想吃什麼、想去哪,第一句先用這個。

例:I’m easy, you pick.(我都好,你選。)
例:I’m good with anything.(什麼都可以。)
例:Anything’s fine with me.(我什麼都行。)
I’m easy 在這裡是「好配合」,不是「我很簡單」;美國人天天講。

2. 兩個選項都行 → Either works. / Either’s fine.

對方給兩個選項時,這句最省事。

例:Six or seven? Either works.(六點還是七點?都可以。)
例:Either’s fine with me.(哪個我都行。)
例:Both sound great.(兩個聽起來都很棒。)
三個以上選項就不用 either,改 I’m good with any of those。

3. 你決定 → You pick. / Up to you. / Your call.

把選擇權交出去,記得語氣要輕鬆。

例:You pick, I chose last time.(你選,上次是我選的。)
例:Up to you.(看你。)
例:Your call.(你決定。)
Your call 更口語,朋友和同事都能用。

4. 想用 whatever → Whatever you want. / Whatever works for you.

whatever 後面一定接東西,才是「什麼都好」。

例:Whatever you want.(你想要什麼都好。)
例:Whatever works for you.(你方便怎樣都行。)
例:Whatever you’re in the mood for.(看你想吃什麼。)
單獨一句 Whatever. 配聳肩,就是「隨便啦、別煩我」,吵架用的。

5. 同意對方的提議 → Sounds good. / Works for me.

對方選好了,回這一句就收尾。

例:Thai it is. Sounds good.(那就泰式。好啊。)
例:Seven works for me.(七點我可以。)
例:Let’s do it.(就這樣吧。)
X it is 是「那就 X 了」的口語講法,決定好之後常聽到。

逐字稿 Transcript

J
Friday, six o’clock, your coworker turns around and asks what you feel like for dinner, and you say the one word that makes his face drop. I’m Jason.禮拜五晚上六點,同事轉過來問你晚餐想吃什麼,你脫口而出一個字,他的表情瞬間垮下來。我是 Jason。
M
And I’m Mary, and that one word is “whatever.” You meant it as anything’s fine, but his face is telling you something completely different just happened here.我是 Mary,那個字就是 whatever(隨便)。你的意思是「都可以」,但他的表情告訴你,發生了完全不一樣的事。
J
In today’s dialogue, Ben turns to Anna at the end of the day and asks, “What do you feel like? Tacos, ramen, that new Thai place?” And Anna just says, “Whatever.”今天的對話裡,Ben 一天快結束時轉頭問 Anna:「你想吃什麼?塔可、拉麵,還是那間新開的泰式?」Anna 就回了一句:「Whatever.」
M
Ben goes, “Whoa. Did I do something wrong? You sound kind of annoyed right now.” And Anna’s sitting there thinking, wait a second, I was actually being nice.Ben 說:「哇,我是不是做錯什麼了?妳現在聽起來有點不耐煩(annoyed)。」Anna 心裡想,等一下,我明明是好意欸。
J
That’s the actual trap here. In Chinese, the word for anything’s fine is friendly, you’re saying I don’t mind, you choose, I’m easy to please, and there’s nothing wrong with meaning it that way.這就是真正的陷阱。中文的「隨便、都可以」是善意的,你想表達的是我不介意、你決定就好、我很好配合,這樣想完全沒有錯。
M
But in English, a bare “Whatever.” said flat, maybe with a shrug, means something close to I don’t care, leave me alone. It’s the eye-roll word from the end of an argument.但英文裡,單獨一句平板語氣的「Whatever.」,配上聳肩,意思接近「我不在乎,別煩我」,是吵架快結束時翻白眼講的那個字。
J
So the listener isn’t hearing anything’s fine at all. What they’re actually hearing is, I’m annoyed right now and I don’t want to deal with this.所以對方聽到的完全不是「都可以」,他聽到的是「我現在在不爽,不想理你」。
M
Ben actually explains this part in the dialogue. He says, “Whatever by itself sounds like you’re rolling your eyes at me.” That’s exactly the feeling it gives off.Ben 在對話裡直接解釋了,他說:「Whatever 單獨講,聽起來像妳在對我翻白眼。」就是這種感覺。
J
In the dialogue, Anna catches it immediately and backpedals right after she hears how it landed. She says, “What? No! I mean I’m fine with anything. You choose.” That’s the quick fix in real time.對話裡 Anna 一聽出不對馬上補救,她說:「什麼?沒有啊!我是說我都可以,你選。」這就是當下即時的修正。
M
That’s a good instinct, catching yourself right after and adding a few more words. It shows the other person you weren’t trying to brush them off.這個反應很好,話一出口馬上補幾個字。這樣對方就知道你不是想打發他、不理他。
J
Okay so what do you actually say instead of that? First one, “I’m easy.” That means you’re easy to please, not that you’re simple as a person.那到底該說什麼呢?第一句,I’m easy(我都好)。意思是你很好配合,不是說你這個人很簡單。
M
Second option, “Either works,” and you use that one when there are just two choices sitting on the table. Tacos or ramen tonight? Either works for me.第二句,Either works(哪個都行),適合只有兩個選項的時候。今晚塔可還是拉麵?我都可以。
J
Third group, and this one just hands the choice straight over to them. “You pick.” “Up to you.” “Your call.” All three basically do the exact same job.第三組,直接把選擇權交出去。You pick(你選)、Up to you(看你)、Your call(你決定),三句功能一樣。
M
Or you could go with “I’m good with anything,” or simply “Anything’s fine with me.” Both of those sound relaxed and easygoing instead of annoyed or short.或者用 I’m good with anything(我什麼都可以),或 Anything’s fine with me。聽起來輕鬆隨和,不是不耐煩。
J
You could also just say, “I’m flexible about that.” That word means you’re easy to work with on plans, not that you can literally bend in half, and people use it constantly when plans are still up in the air.你也可以說 I’m flexible about that(我很有彈性)。這個字是說你很好配合安排,不是說你身體真的能彎,計畫還沒定案的時候美國人超常用這個字。
M
And once they actually pick something, you agree with “Sounds good,” or “Works for me.” That’s how Ben and Anna end it, Thai it is, sounds good.等對方真的選好了,你就回 Sounds good(好啊)或 Works for me(我可以)。Ben 跟 Anna 最後就是這樣收尾的,那就泰式,好啊。
J
Now here’s the part that most people completely miss. Whatever itself isn’t actually a bad word at all. It’s only bad when it stands there completely alone.這邊是大家常常漏掉的重點。whatever 這個字本身不是壞字,它只有單獨出現的時候才顯得沒禮貌。
M
Just add something after it, and it turns polite again right away. “Whatever you want.” “Whatever works for you.” “Whatever you’re in the mood for tonight.”後面接個東西,立刻就變禮貌了。Whatever you want(你想要什麼都好)、Whatever works for you、Whatever you’re in the mood for tonight。
J
It’s the same exact word both times, but a totally different feeling, and the only reason is you gave it a few more words to lean on, which is a pretty simple fix once you actually know about it.兩次都是同一個字,感覺卻完全不一樣,差別只在你多給了它幾個字撐著,知道這個訣竅之後其實很簡單。
M
One more trap. “I don’t care.” Between American friends, that’s actually fine. But it can easily sound like I don’t care about you, or I don’t care about this.還有一個陷阱,I don’t care(我不在乎)。美國朋友之間講其實沒問題,但很容易聽起來像「我不在乎你」,或「我不在乎這件事」。
J
A safer bet is “I don’t mind,” or just “I’m good with anything.” Same exact meaning, but way less risk of ever sounding cold or distant.比較保險的說法是 I don’t mind(我不介意),或 I’m good with anything。意思一樣,但不會聽起來冷冰冰的。
M
So really there are three traps here. One, saying whatever completely alone. Two, letting I don’t care sound harsh. Three, forgetting to add words after whatever.所以這邊其實有三個陷阱。第一,單獨說 whatever。第二,讓 I don’t care 聽起來太衝。第三,忘記在 whatever 後面加東西。
J
And honestly the fix for all three is the exact same idea, just say a little bit more. Flexible, easy, either works, you pick, up to you, none of it is complicated at all.解法其實都一樣,多說一點就好。flexible(有彈性)、easy(好配合)、either works、you pick、up to you,一點都不複雜。
M
Anna actually catches herself right there and fixes the whole thing on the spot. She says, “I’m easy. Honestly, you pick, I’m good with anything.”Anna 後來自己抓到問題並馬上修正,她說:「我都好。真的,你選,我什麼都可以。」
J
And Ben’s reaction says it all. “Now you sound like a friend, not like you’re mad at me.” One sentence flipped his whole read of the mood.Ben 的反應就說明了一切:「妳這樣講才像朋友,不像在生我的氣。」一句話就整個翻轉了他對氣氛的解讀。
M
So the fix isn’t complicated at all, it’s really just about tone and adding a few more words so people know exactly where you actually stand.所以解法真的不難,重點就是語氣,還有多加幾個字,讓對方清楚知道你真正的意思。
J
Alright, we’re just about done here, so let’s hear Ben and Anna one more time, and listen closely for the exact moment Anna’s one word turns Ben’s whole face.好,我們差不多要結束了,再聽一次 Ben 跟 Anna 的對話,仔細聽 Anna 那一個字讓 Ben 表情變化的瞬間。

The second time through, you can hear it clearly, the flat whatever that makes Ben’s face drop, and then I’m easy, you pick, that brings him right back.第二次聽的時候你就會抓得很清楚,那個讓 Ben 表情垮下來的平板 whatever,跟後面把他拉回來的 I’m easy, you pick。
M
