別說 My card was stolen,打給銀行英文這樣說

My credit card was stolen.”

Someone used my card number. 或 There’s a charge I don’t recognize.;接著請客服 Can you freeze my card?,再說 I’d like to dispute this charge.

Someone used my card number. 或 There’s a charge I don’t recognize.。

My card was stolen. → Someone used my card number.;② Please stop my card. → Can you freeze my card?;③ I don’t want to pay this. → I’d like to dispute this charge.

Daniel

Thank you for calling customer service. This is Daniel. How can I help you today?

Grace

Hi, my credit card was stolen. I just got a text about a four-hundred-dollar charge in Miami.

Daniel

I’m sorry to hear that. Do you still have the card with you?

Grace

Yes, it’s right here in my wallet. And I’m in Seattle, not Miami.

Daniel

Okay, so your card wasn’t stolen. Someone used your card number. That sounds like fraud, and we can help.

Grace

I see. I didn’t make this charge. Can you freeze my card?

Daniel

Done. Your card is frozen now. I’ll also open a dispute for that charge, so you shouldn’t have to pay for it.

Grace

Thank you. But I’m traveling for two more weeks. How do I pay for things?

Daniel

We can send a replacement card to your hotel. It takes three to five business days.

Grace

That’s perfect. Please send it to my hotel. Thanks for your help.

Someone used my card number.(真的被偷才說 My card was stolen.)/發現怪帳:There’s a charge I don’t recognize./先止血:Can you freeze my card?/不想付:I’d like to dispute this charge./旅途中補卡:Can you send it to my hotel?

①有一筆我不認得=There’s a charge I don’t recognize.
②這筆不是我刷的=I didn’t make this charge.
③有人盜用卡號=Someone used my card number.
④請凍結我的卡=Can you freeze my card?
I’d like to dispute this charge.
⑥卡真的被偷=My card was stolen.
Can you send me a new card?
⑧要多久=How long will it take?

Next Time

My credit card was stolen.

Someone used my card number.

Someone used my card number.,客服比較快知道問題出在卡號。

Please stop my card.

Can you freeze my card?

為什麼:銀行用 freeze(暫停,之後可以解凍)或 cancel(直接作廢、換新卡)。

I don’t want to pay this.

I’d like to dispute this charge.

Sentence Patterns

There’s a charge I don’t recognize.

recognize=認得,用「我不認得這筆」最清楚。

例:There’s a charge I don’t recognize.(有一筆消費我不認得。)
例:I didn’t make this charge.(這筆不是我刷的。)
例:I got a text about a charge in Miami.(我收到簡訊,說邁阿密有一筆消費。)

Someone used my card number.

Someone used my card number.(有人盜用我的卡號。)
例:My card is still with me.(卡還在我身上。)
例:I think my card information was stolen.(我覺得我的卡片資料被盜了。)
實體卡真的被偷說 My card was stolen.;弄丟說 I lost my card.

Can you freeze my card?

Can you freeze my card?(可以幫我凍結卡片嗎?)
例:Can you block this card?(可以幫我停用這張卡嗎?)
例:Please cancel this card and send me a new one.(請把這張卡作廢,寄一張新的給我。)

I’d like to dispute this charge.

I’d like to dispute this charge.(我要申訴這筆消費。)
例:Will I get my money back?(錢會退回來嗎?)
例:Do I have to pay for this charge?(這筆我需要付嗎?)

Can you send it to my hotel?

Can you send the new card to my hotel?(新卡可以寄到我的飯店嗎?)
例:How long will it take?(要多久?)
例:It takes three to five business days.(大約三到五個工作天。)

Transcript

J
Your phone buzzes. It’s a text from your bank, and there’s a big charge from a city you’ve never even visited. What do you say to the bank? I’m Jason, and today we’re practicing exactly that.
M
And I’m Mary. Okay, here’s our story. Grace is from Taiwan, and she lives in Los Angeles. This week, she’s on a trip to Seattle. Her phone shows a text about a four-hundred-dollar charge in Miami. She’s never been there, so she calls the number on the back of her card.
J
A man named Daniel answers. He works in customer service at the bank. He says, “Thank you for calling customer service. This is Daniel. How can I help you today?” Pretty normal start, right? 他說:「Thank you for calling customer service. This is Daniel. How can I help you today?」
M
Then Grace says, “Hi, my credit card was stolen. I just got a text about a four-hundred-dollar charge in Miami.” Here’s the thing. Her card is still in her wallet. So that first sentence is not the best choice.接著 Grace 說:「Hi, my credit card was stolen. I just got a text about a four-hundred-dollar charge in Miami.」
J
Yeah. “My credit card was stolen” is perfect English when someone really takes your card. But Grace still has hers. So Daniel asks, “Do you still have the card with you?” That’s the key question. 所以 Daniel 問:「Do you still have the card with you?」
M
And Grace says, “Yes, it’s right here in my wallet. And I’m in Seattle, not Miami.” Then Daniel says, “Okay, so your card wasn’t stolen. Someone used your card number.” The plastic is safe. Only the number was used.Grace 說:「Yes, it’s right here in my wallet. And I’m in Seattle, not Miami.」然後 Daniel 說:「Okay, so your card wasn’t stolen. Someone used your card number.」
J
So keep three ideas apart. A thief takes your card: “My card was stolen.” You can’t find your card: “I lost my card.” The card is with you, but the number was used: “Someone used my card number.” 小偷拿走卡片:「My card was stolen.」找不到卡片:「I lost my card.」卡還在身上,但卡號被用:「Someone used my card number.」
M
Another easy line is “My card is still with me.” Say it early, and the bank knows right away it’s about the number, not the card. It saves you a few questions, and honestly, a little stress.還有一句很簡單:「My card is still with me.」
J
I had a small version of this. My card stopped working at a store in Osaka, and I totally panicked. The bank had frozen it because of a weird charge. I just wish I’d known what to say.
M
Oh, I get that. Next, Daniel adds, “That sounds like fraud, and we can help.” Fraud means someone is using your money in a dishonest way. And Grace says, “I see. I didn’t make this charge. Can you freeze my card?” 接著 Daniel 又說:「That sounds like fraud, and we can help.」fraud 就是有人用不誠實的方式動用你的錢。然後 Grace 說:「I see. I didn’t make this charge. Can you freeze my card?」
J
I like “I didn’t make this charge.” It’s clear and polite. Or you can say, “There’s a charge I don’t recognize.” Recognize just means you know it. You don’t know this charge, so you don’t recognize it.我喜歡「I didn’t make this charge.」 你也可以說:「There’s a charge I don’t recognize.」recognize 就是認得。
M
Now, freeze. Freeze means pause the card for now. You can unfreeze it later if everything is fine. Cancel is different. Cancel means the card is dead, and the bank gives you a new one.
J
Block also works, like “Can you block this card?” And many bank apps have a freeze button. So you can tap it yourself, even before you call. Most banks can also send you a text alert for every charge.block 也可以用,像是「Can you block this card?」
M
Then Daniel says, “Done. Your card is frozen now. I’ll also open a dispute for that charge, so you shouldn’t have to pay for it.” In plain words, the bank will check this charge for her.然後 Daniel 說:「Done. Your card is frozen now. I’ll also open a dispute for that charge, so you shouldn’t have to pay for it.」
J
Dispute sounds big, but it’s simple. To dispute a charge means you officially tell the bank, “This one is wrong.” Usually you don’t pay it while the bank checks. But rules depend on the bank, so ask them.dispute
M
So you can say, “I’d like to dispute this charge.” And a good follow-up is, “Will I get my money back?” Both are short and polite. Banks hear them every day, so don’t feel shy about asking.所以你可以說:「I’d like to dispute this charge.」接著可以再問:「Will I get my money back?」
J
Now Grace has a new problem. She says, “Thank you. But I’m traveling for two more weeks. How do I pay for things?” With a frozen card, a trip can get tricky fast. Good question from her. 她說:「Thank you. But I’m traveling for two more weeks. How do I pay for things?」
M
And Daniel says, “We can send a replacement card to your hotel. It takes three to five business days.” A replacement card is just a new card that takes the place of the old one.Daniel 說:「We can send a replacement card to your hotel. It takes three to five business days.」replacement card
J
What about business days? That’s Monday to Friday. No weekends, no holidays. So if you call on a Friday, the weekend adds two extra days. Three to five business days can easily take a full week.
M
You can ask these yourself, too. “Can you send the new card to my hotel?” And then, “How long will it take?” Those two questions work on almost any trip, so they’re great to memorize. 「Can you send the new card to my hotel?」然後是「How long will it take?」
J
Grace finishes with, “That’s perfect. Please send it to my hotel. Thanks for your help.” Calm, short, and polite. That’s all you need. So the whole plan is: say what happened, freeze the card, then dispute the charge.Grace 最後說:「That’s perfect. Please send it to my hotel. Thanks for your help.」
M
And remember the key swap. Card still with you? Use “Someone used my card number.” See a strange charge? Use “There’s a charge I don’t recognize.” Those two lines will help you in almost any bank call. 就說「Someone used my card number.」 就說「There’s a charge I don’t recognize.」
J
