2026 09 09 en drive thru Daily English |

Uh… yes… I want…”

記住三段就好:Can I get…(點餐)→ That’s it, thanks.(點完)→ pull up to the second window(開到第二個窗口取餐)。 Sorry, can you say that again?

(Hi, welcome to… what can I get you?),你用 Can I get… Would you like to make that a combo?(要升級套餐嗎)、Anything else?(還要別的嗎);③報價+取餐指示——That’ll be $9.60, please pull up to the second window(開到第二個窗口)。 Sorry, can you say that again?

Jake

Hi, welcome to Sunny Burger! What can I get for you today?

Amy

Uh… yes… I want… sorry, one second.

Jake

No problem, take your time.

Amy

Okay. Can I get a medium iced latte with light ice, and a breakfast sandwich?

Jake

Sure. Would you like to make that a combo? It comes with hash browns.

Amy

No, just the sandwich, thanks.

Jake

Got it. Anything else?

Amy

That’s it, thanks.

Jake

That’ll be nine sixty. Please pull up to the second window.

Amy

Sorry, can you say that again? Which window?

得來速三段:Can I get…(點餐)→ Anything else? / That’s it(點完)→ pull up to the second window(取餐)。客製加在餐點後面(with no ice、light ice、no onions),聽不清就 Sorry, can you say that again?

①點餐開頭=Can I get…
②別說 I want(太衝)
③少冰=light ice/去冰=with no ice
④升級套餐=make it a combo
⑤還要嗎=Anything else?
⑥點完=That’s it, thanks.
⑦取餐=pull up to the second window
Sorry, can you say that again?

Next Time

I want a cheeseburger.

Can I get a cheeseburger?

Can I get…

為什麼:I want 文法沒錯但語氣像命令;美國人點餐用 Can I get… 或 I’ll have…,禮貌又自然。

Yes, yes, okay.

Sorry, can you say that again?

No ice, iced latte.

An iced latte with no ice, please.

為什麼:英文的客製要接在餐點後面:with no ice/light ice/no onions/dressing on the side,店員一聽就懂。

Vocabulary Boost

drive-thru/ˈdraɪv θruː/ n.

Let’s just go through the drive-thru.(我們直接走得來速吧。)

speaker/ˈspiːkər/ n.

The speaker was so crackly I couldn’t hear.(對講機雜音超大,我聽不清楚。)

Can I get/kæn aɪ ɡet/

Can I get a large fries?(我要一份大薯。)

light ice/laɪt aɪs/

An iced tea with light ice, please.(冰茶少冰,謝謝。)

on the side/ɑːn ðə saɪd/

Dressing on the side, please.(醬另外放,謝謝。)

combo/ˈkɑːmboʊ/ n.

Make it a combo, please.(幫我升級成套餐。)

pull up/pʊl ʌp/

Please pull up to the second window.(請開到第二個窗口。)

take your time/teɪk jʊr taɪm/

No problem, take your time.(沒問題,慢慢來。)

Sentence Patterns

Can I get… / I’ll have…

Can I get a medium iced coffee?(我要一杯中杯冰咖啡。)
例:I’ll have the number two, please.(我要二號餐。)
例:Can I get two cheeseburgers and a large fries?(我要兩個起司漢堡跟一份大薯。)

light… / on the side

An iced latte with no ice.(冰拿鐵去冰。)
例:A burger with no onions.(漢堡不要洋蔥。)
例:A salad with the dressing on the side.(沙拉醬另外放。)
少冰是 light ice、去冰是 no ice;少糖是 less sugar/half sweet。

Would you like to make that a combo? 是固定問法,回 Sure 或 No, just the…。

例:Sure, make it a combo.(好,升級套餐。)
例:No, just the sandwich, thanks.(不用,三明治就好。)
例:Can I get a Coke with that?(可以配一杯可樂嗎?)

That’s it / That’s all

例:That’s it, thanks.(就這樣,謝謝。)
例:That’s all for me.(我就這些。)
例:That’ll do it, thank you.(這樣就好,謝謝。)
That’ll do it

5. 取餐指示 → pull up to the first / second window

Please pull up to the first window.(請開到第一個窗口。)
例:Pull around to the second window for your order.(繞到第二個窗口取餐。)
很多店只有一個窗口,那就直接 pull up to the window;聽不清楚問 which window 就好。

Transcript

J
Okay, so my first drive-thru in the US, I totally froze. I’m Jason, by the way. The speaker box crackled, this voice started talking fast, and all I managed to say back was ‘uh… yes.’
M
That’s exactly what happens to Amy in today’s story. I’m Mary. You panic, there’s a car behind you, the box is crackly, and your brain just completely shuts down.
J
Right, and the crew member is talking so fast, asking you a bunch of stuff, so you just end up saying ‘yes, yes’ to everything, hoping it’s the right answer.
M
So today, let’s break down exactly how a real American drive-thru works, step by step, so next time you’re at the speaker box, you won’t freeze up like that.
J
Okay, here’s the big picture. A drive-thru order is really just three steps. Step one, you order into the speaker box — the crew greets you and asks what you’d like.
M
Step two, the crew confirms what you said, and they might try to upsell you — like asking, ‘Would you like to make that a combo?’
J
And step three, they tell you the total and tell you which window to pull up to. That’s it — three simple steps, and it’s basically the same every single time.
M
Let’s start with step one. When you order, don’t say ‘I want a burger.’ In English, that actually sounds a little pushy, like you’re just demanding it.
J
Instead, just say ‘Can I get a burger?’ or ‘I’ll have a burger.’ Those sound way more natural, and honestly, that’s what real Americans actually say every day.改成說『Can I get a burger?(我可以來一個漢堡嗎,點餐開頭)』或『I’ll have a burger.(我要一個漢堡)』,這樣聽起來自然多了,美國人平常真的都這樣講。
M
Try saying it out loud right now — ‘Can I get a medium coffee?’ See, that’s it, that’s basically your whole opening line for any order.現在大聲唸一次看看:『Can I get a medium coffee?』
J
Now here’s what it’s really like — the speaker box is crackly, the crew talks fast, and there’s usually a car right behind you, so the whole thing feels rushed.
M
But don’t worry, if you need a second, the crew will actually say ‘No problem, take your time’ — that’s a real thing they say, not just being polite.
J
Okay, next — if you want to customize your order, the trick is you put that part after the item, using the word ‘with’ to connect them.
M
So it’s like, ‘Can I get a burger with no onions,’ or ‘a latte with light ice.’ The customization always comes right after the item, never before.像是『Can I get a burger with no onions(我要一個不加洋蔥的漢堡)』,或是『a latte with light ice(拿鐵要少冰)』,客製化的部分一定接在品項後面,不是前面。
J
Other common ones are ‘with no ice,’ or ‘dressing on the side,’ if you don’t want your salad dressing already mixed in with everything else.
M
Now step two — the crew usually asks, ‘Would you like to make that a combo?’ That means turning your single item into a full meal with fries and a drink.
J
And at a lot of places, you can also just order by number, like ‘Can I get the number two.’ It’s way faster than saying the whole name of everything.
M
Once you’re done ordering, just say ‘That’s it, thanks,’ or ‘That’ll do it.’ That’s how you tell the crew you’re finished and ready to move forward.點完之後,只要說『That’s it, thanks(就這樣,謝謝)』,或是『That’ll do it(這樣就好)』,這樣店員就知道你點完了,可以往前開了。
J
Here’s a trap for us Taiwanese learners, though — if you don’t catch what the crew said, don’t just say ‘yes, yes’ to everything, hoping it’s fine.
M
Because then you might end up agreeing to something you didn’t actually want, like a size upgrade or an extra item you never even asked for.
J
Instead, just say, ‘Sorry, can you say that again?’ That’s your lifeline, and honestly, nobody working the window thinks that’s weird or annoying at all.改成說『Sorry, can you say that again?(不好意思,可以再說一次嗎?)』
M
Now step three — the total and the window. They’ll say something like, ‘That’ll be nine sixty. Please pull up to the second window.’ 他們可能會說『That’ll be nine sixty. Please pull up to the second window.(總共九塊六,麻煩開到第二個窗口。)』
J
Some places have two windows — first to pay, second to pick up. But a lot of places just have one, or the first one’s closed, so you pay and grab your food at the same window. That’s what happened to Amy.
M
And there’s usually a little screen at the speaker box that shows your order as you go, so you can actually check it before you drive off.
J
So put it all together — the crew greets you, you order with ‘Can I get,’ you customize with ‘with,’ maybe make it a combo, then say ‘that’s it, thanks,’ and pull up.
M
And if anything gets crackly or the crew talks too fast, you’ve got your lifeline — ‘can you say that again?’ Honestly, that one phrase saves every drive-thru order.如果喇叭又沙沙的或店員講太快,你有救命句可以用——『can you say that again?』
J
Okay, that’s the whole drive-thru in three steps. Let’s do one last thing before we wrap — let’s hear Amy’s whole order one more time.
M
Listen for how she goes from a panicked ‘uh… yes’ all the way to a clean, confident order by the end. Here we go.
🔁 [DIALOGUE REPLAY]
J
Second time through, it’s just three steps — ‘Can I get…’, customize with ‘with,’ ‘that’s it, thanks,’ then pull up to the window. And if the speaker eats a word, just ask again.第二次聽完會發現真的就三步驟——『Can I get…』開頭、用『with』客製化、『that’s it, thanks』收尾,然後開去窗口。
M
