史蒂文: 沒錯!我現在就打包。
湯姆: 紐奧良旅行都準備好了嗎?
史蒂文: 差不多了!我應該準備好了。
M: Okay, so that seems like a really simple, straightforward chat.
M:好,聽起來是一段很簡單、很直接的對話。
J: Right. But there is so much useful language packed in there.
J:沒錯,但裡面有很多很實用的語言重點。
M: Let’s break it down a bit.
M:那我們來拆解一下吧。
J: Where should we start? Maybe with the most basic words?
J:我們要從哪裡開始呢?也許從最基本的單字?
M: Yeah, the core vocabulary. Steven says, “I’m packing my luggage.” Those are the key words right there. “To pack” is the verb, the action.
M:對,核心單字。Stephen 說:「I’m packing my luggage.(我正在整理行李。)」,這裡面關鍵字就是「pack」這個動詞,也就是整理、打包。
J: And “luggage” is the general term for all your bags, right?
J:「luggage」就是所有行李的總稱,對吧?
M: Sure. But then he says “suitcase.”
M:沒錯,但接著他說了「suitcase」。
J: Luggage is the general concept, and a suitcase is that specific, you know, rectangular bag you check in or carry on.
J:Luggage 是大範圍的概念,而 suitcase 指的是那種長方形、有拉桿的行李箱,托運或手提都可以。
J: And then they move on to the smaller things. Steven mentions toiletries.
J:然後他們聊到更小的物品。Stephen 提到「toiletries」。
M: Which is such a useful word. It covers, you know, your toothbrush, shampoo, all that stuff.
M:這個字非常好用,包含牙刷、洗髮精這類所有盥洗用品。
J: And Tom jumps right in with even more essential items, like medicine in the carry-on.
J:Tom 接著提醒了一些更重要的東西,比如要把藥放在隨身行李裡。
M: And also the charger and passport. These are the things you absolutely cannot forget.
M:還有充電器跟護照。這些都是你絕對不能忘記的東西。
J: Okay, so now let’s talk about the sentence patterns, because that’s where the real magic is for conversation.
J:好,現在我們來看一下句型,因為這些才是會讓你英文變自然的關鍵。
M: For sure. My favorite one here is how Tom checks on the camera.
M:沒錯。我最喜歡的是 Tom 如何確認相機這件事。
J: He doesn’t just ask, “Did you pack the camera?” He says…
J:他不是用「Did you pack the camera?」,而是說……
M: “…have you packed your camera yet?”
M:「…have you packed your camera yet?(你相機收好了嗎?)」。
J: Yes. That present perfect tense with “yet” is the perfect way to ask if a necessary task is complete. It’s so natural.
J:對。「現在完成式+yet」是詢問某個必要事情是否已完成的最自然方式。
M: And Stephen’s response is great, too. “I’ve already put it in my suitcase.” He uses “already” to show it’s done.
M:Stephen 的回答也很棒:「I’ve already put it in my suitcase.(我已經把它放進行李箱了。)」,他用「already」來表示事情完成。
J: And that little phrasal verb, “put in.” I put my keys in my pocket, I put the milk in the fridge…
J:而且「put in」這個片語超簡單、超常用。像是:「我把鑰匙放進口袋」、「我把牛奶放進冰箱」等等。
M: Right. It’s everywhere.
M:沒錯,到處都用得到。
J: Now, what about reminding someone? Tom has a go-to phrase for this.
J:那如果你要提醒別人呢?Tom 用了一句非常好用的句子。
M: “Don’t forget to…”
M:「Don’t forget to…(別忘了要……)」。
J: “Don’t forget to put some medicine in your carry-on.”
J:「Don’t forget to put some medicine in your carry-on.(別忘了把一些藥放在你的隨身行李裡。)」
M: It’s a command, but it’s a very soft, helpful one. You’ll use this all the time.
M:這雖然是命令句,但語氣超溫和、很像在幫忙提醒。你一定會超常用。
J: And if someone helps you like that, you need a good response. Stephen’s is perfect.
J:而如果有人這樣提醒你,你需要一個好的回應。Stephen 那句就超完美。
M: “Oh, right! I almost forgot. Thanks for reminding me.”
M:「喔對!我差點忘了。謝謝你提醒我。」
J: So polite, and it keeps the conversation positive. It shows you appreciate the help.
J:非常有禮貌,也讓對話保持好的氣氛,表示你真的很感謝對方。
M: And then, for the grand finale, Tom has the ultimate checklist question.
M:接著到了最後高潮,Tom 問了最經典的確認句。
J: “Are you all set?”
J:「Are you all set?(你都準備好了嗎?)」
M: I love that phrase. It just means, “Are you 100% ready to go?”
M:我超愛這句,它的意思就是「你全部都準備好了嗎?」
J: It’s much more natural than saying, “Are you completely prepared?”
J:比起說「Are you completely prepared?」,這句自然太多了。
M: So much more, yeah. And Stephen’s answer, “Almost, I think I’m ready,” is also a really useful and honest way to respond.
M:真的差很多。而 Stephen 回「Almost, I think I’m ready.(差不多了,我覺得準備好了。)」也是很自然、很真實的回答方式。
M: Really, try using these phrases the next time you’re getting ready for a trip. Just try one, like, “Are you all set?” It makes a huge difference.
M:下次你在準備旅行時,真的可以試著用用看這些句子。隨便講一句,例如「Are you all set?」都會讓你的英文聽起來大加分。
