📖 Transcript 逐字稿
M:
Have you ever found yourself, like, trying to describe where something is in a picture? But the English words just don’t come easily. Like, you want to say the person’s second from the right, but maybe it feels a bit hard. Or pointing to the top left corner and feeling kind of stuck?
M:
你是否曾經想描述圖片裡某樣東西的位置 ,卻一時說不出英語?比如你想說「那個人是從右邊數來第二個」,可能覺得有點困難;或是想指「左上角」卻不太會表達?
J:Don’t worry. Today, we’re going to help you with some simple, really natural English expressions for describing positions. You’ll learn what native speakers, you know, actually say, so we have a short conversation for you. It’s between Anna and Kevin. They’re in an online meeting, discussing details in a photo. Listen closely to how they describe where people and things are.
J: 別擔心。今天我們要教你一些簡單又很自然的英語位置表達,你會學到母語者實際會怎麼說。好,接下來有一段短對話,主角是 Anna 和 Kevin。他們在進行線上會議,討論一張照片的細節。請仔細聽他們如何描述人物和物品的位置。

英文對話
Anna: Can you see the picture I just shared?
Kevin: Yes, I can. Who should I focus on?
Anna: The man who is the second from the right.
Kevin: Oh, the one in the blue shirt?
Anna: Exactly. And look at the top right corner, there’s a small logo.
Kevin: I see it. And in the bottom left corner, there’s a date stamp.
Anna: Right. Could you also check the third from the left person?
Kevin: The one holding a cup?
Anna: Yes. He’s our new team member.
Kevin: Got it. Should I crop out the bottom right part of the image?
Anna: Yes, please. It’s not important.
Kevin: Done. Anything else?
Anna: That’s all. Thanks for the quick edit!
M: Okay, so that was a quick chat, right? But, full of useful phrases. Let’s look a bit closer at what Anna and Kevin said.
M: 好,這是一段很短的對話對吧?但裡面滿滿都是實用片語。我們仔細看一下 Anna 和 Kevin 說了什麼。
J: Yes, let’s boost your vocabulary and, sentence patterns. First up, vocabulary. We heard “corner.” Now, a corner is basically an edge or, you know, the part where two lines meet.
J: 沒錯,來加強一下你的字彙跟——呃——句型。先從字彙開始。我們聽到「corner(角落)」。角落基本上就是邊緣處,也就是兩條邊相交的地方。
M: Like in the dialogue, Anna mentioned the top right corner for that logo.
M: 像對話裡,Anna 提到那個 Logo 在「右上角」。
J: Exactly. And Kevin pointed out the bottom left corner where the date stamp was. A very useful word.
J: 沒錯,而 Kevin 指出日期戳記在「左下角」。這個字非常好用。
J: Then there was that phrase, “number from the direction.”
J: 接著是那個「number from the direction」的說法。
J: This is how you count from a side, like left or right. Anna used it twice, didn’t she?
J: 這是從某一側(例如左邊或右邊)開始數的表達方式。Anna 用了兩次,對吧?
M: The second from the right for the man.
M: 像是「the second from the right(從右邊數來第二個)」那位男士。
J: And, uh, the third from the left person.
J: 還有「the third from the left(從左邊數來第三個)」的人。
J: Then “crop.” It’s a verb. To crop means to cut parts of a picture, usually the edges.
J: 再來是「crop」。它是動詞,意思是把圖片的一部分裁掉,通常是邊緣。
M: Like Kevin asked, “Should I crop out the bottom right part?” So, just remove it.
M: 像 Kevin 問的:「要不要把右下角裁掉?」也就是把那一塊移除。
J: And finally, “focus on.” It’s a phrasal verb. It just means to pay close attention to something specific.
J: 最後是「focus on」,是個片語動詞,意思是「專注於/特別留意某件事」。
M: So when Kevin asked, “Who should I focus on?” he meant, “Who should he look at closely?”
M: 所以當 Kevin 問「我要專注看誰?」就是在問「我該特別留意哪一位?」
J: That’s it. Simple, common words.
J: 就是這樣,簡單又常用的字。
M: Now, what about the sentence patterns we heard?
M: 那我們聽到的句型有哪些呢?
J: Pattern 1 was that counting phrase: “number from the direction.” The example was, “the man who is the second from the right.”
J: 句型一就是剛剛那種數位次的說法:「number from the direction(從某個方向數過來第幾個)」。例如:「the man who is the second from the right(從右邊數來第二個的男士)」。
M: That seems perfect for pointing out people or items in a row, like in a line.
M: 這很適合用在一排人或一排物品中,指明第幾個。
J: Pattern 2, “top/bottom plus left/right corner.” We heard, “Look at the top right corner” and “in the bottom left corner.”
J: 句型二:「top/bottom + left/right + corner」。我們聽到「Look at the top right corner(看右上角)」和「in the bottom left corner(在左下角)」。
M: Easy enough. You just use that for things at the very edges, the corners of an image or screen.
M: 很簡單,用來說圖片或螢幕邊角位置的事物。
J: Pattern 3, “Could you check the position?” Anna used this. “Could you also check the third from the left person?” It’s just a polite way to ask someone to find something.
J: 句型三:「Could you check the …?(你可以幫我看一下……嗎?)」Anna 就用了:「Could you also check the third from the left person?(也能幫我看一下從左邊數第三個的人嗎?)」這是禮貌地請對方確認目標的位置。
J: Okay, Pattern 4.
J: 好,句型四。
M: This is for checking you’ve got the right thing. It’s that “the one [description]?”
M: 這是用來確認「是不是同一個」的說法,就是「the one + 描述」
J: Kevin did this twice. He asked, “Oh, the one in the blue shirt?”
J: Kevin 用了兩次。他問:「喔,the one in the blue shirt(穿藍襯衫的那位)嗎?」
M: And “the one holding a cup.” So it confirms understanding.
M: 還有「the one holding a cup(拿著杯子的那位)」;用這種方式來確認彼此理解的是同一個人。
J: Very useful to avoid mistakes. And the last one, Pattern 5, “Should I [action] the [position] part?”
J: 能避免誤會。最後是句型五:「Should I [動作] the [位置] part?(我要不要把[位置]的部分[動作]?)」。
M: Like Kevin’s question, “Should I crop out the bottom right part of the image?”
M: 像 Kevin 問的:「Should I crop out the bottom right part of the image?(我要把圖片右下角裁掉嗎?)」。
J: Exactly. You use this to ask if you should do something, like edit or remove a specific area you’ve identified.
J: 沒錯。這個句型用來詢問自己是否該對某個明確位置做動作,比如編修或移除。
M: See? It really can be quite simple to describe positions clearly once you know these phrases.
M: 有沒有發現?只要會這些片語,清楚描述位置其實很簡單。
J: With these patterns and words, you’ll feel much more confident talking about photos, maps, maybe things on your computer screen.
J: 掌握這些句型和字彙,你在談照片、地圖,甚至電腦螢幕上的東西時都會更有自信。
