M: Okay, simple chat, right? But actually packed with useful stuff.
M:好,對話很簡單對吧?但其實塞滿了有用的重點。

J: Totally.
J:完全同意。

M: Let’s, kind of unpack it a bit. There’s some great phrases in there.
M:我們來稍微拆解一下,裡面有不少好用的說法。

J: First off, Lisa says, “I try to work out three times a week.” “Work out,” that’s just a super common way to say “exercise,” isn’t it?
J:先看 Lisa 說的「I try to work out three times a week」。這裡的「work out」就是「運動/健身」的超常見說法,對吧?

M: Yeah, exactly. “work out” just means to do physical exercise. Really common, really natural.
M:對,沒錯。「work out」就是做肢體運動。很常見、很自然。

J: And then she mentions “cardio” and the “treadmill.”
J:接著她提到「cardio」跟「treadmill」。

M: Right. So, “cardio” is short for “cardiovascular exercise.” Think running, cycling, anything that gets your heart right up. And the “treadmill” is, well, that machine you run on indoors.
M:對。「cardio」是「cardiovascular exercise(心肺有氧運動)」的簡稱,比如跑步、騎車這種讓心跳上來的運動;而「treadmill」就是室內跑步用的跑步機。

J: Got it. And Tom says he likes to “lift weights.”
J:懂了。Tom 說他喜歡「lift weights」。

M: That’s your strength training, building muscle. Pretty straightforward.
M:就是重量訓練、練肌力,很直白。

J: Then they talk about classes, fitness classes, generally, but then Lisa specifically mentions yoga.
J:然後他們聊到課程,像是健身課,接著 Lisa 具體提到瑜伽。

M: And she mentions its benefits: flexibility and balance. Those are great words to know when you’re talking about different kinds of exercise, you know, what they’re good for.
M:沒錯。她也提到好處:柔軟度和平衡感。談各種運動時,這些都是很重要的關鍵詞,說明它們「對什麼有幫助」。

J: And “gym” itself is just the place, obviously.
J:而「gym」本身當然就是指健身房這個地方。

J: And Tom’s last point about being motivated by others. That’s a big one for lots of people.
J:Tom 最後講到被他人激勵這點,對很多人來說很重要。

M: Oh, definitely. Feeling motivated or finding motivation is key. Exercising with friends or in a class can really provide that push, that encouragement.
M:真的。保持/找到動力是關鍵。和朋友或在團體課一起運動,真的會有推力與鼓勵。

J: Okay, so that covers some keywords. But what’s really cool, I think, are the sentence patterns hiding in there, things you can use way beyond the gym.
J:好,關鍵字差不多了。不過我覺得更棒的是裡面藏的句型,這些在健身房以外也超好用。

M: This is where it gets really useful for general conversation. Let’s look at a few.
M:這些對一般對話超實用。我們看幾個。

M: Tom starts with, “Do you often + verb?” Like, “Do you often come to this gym?” That’s a fantastic way to ask about habits.
M:Tom 先用「Do you often + 動詞?」像「Do you often come to this gym?(你常來這間健身房嗎?)」——這是詢問習慣的絕佳句型。

J: Right. You could ask, “Do you often read books?” or “Do you often cook dinner?” Super versatile.
J:對。你也可以問「Do you often read books?」或「Do you often cook dinner?」非常萬用。

M: And Lisa’s reply, “I try to + verb.” So, “I try to work out three times a week.” It shows intention, effort.
M:而 Lisa 的回覆是「I try to + 動詞」,像「I try to work out three times a week」。這個句型表達「我有在努力做這件事」。

J: Like, “I try to learn something new every day,” or “I try to eat healthy.” It’s softer than saying, “I always do.”
J:比如「I try to learn something new every day」或「I try to eat healthy」。比起說「I always do」來得柔和。

M: Then there’s, “What do you usually + verb?” Tom asks, “What do you usually do here?” Great for finding out about routines.
M:接著是「What do you usually + 動詞?」Tom 問「What do you usually do here?(你在這裡通常做什麼?)」——很適合打聽日常安排。

J: What do you usually have for breakfast? What do you usually do on weekends?
J:「What do you usually have for breakfast?(你通常早餐吃什麼?)」或「What do you usually do on weekends?(你週末通常做什麼?)」

M: And Lisa, talking about yoga, “..is good for…” Like, “Yoga is good for flexibility.” You can use that structure for anything.
M:還有 Lisa 在談瑜伽時用到的「…is good for…」,像「Yoga is good for flexibility(瑜伽對柔軟度有幫助)」。這個結構萬用。

J: “Reading is good for your mind.” “Walking is good for your health.” Simple, effective.
J:「Reading is good for your mind(閱讀對心智有益)。」「Walking is good for your health(走路有益健康)。」簡單又有效。

J: And how about, “Have you tried + noun or verbing?” Lisa asked, “Have you tried the yoga class?” Perfect for suggesting things or asking about experiences.
J:還有「Have you tried + 名詞/動名詞?」Lisa 問「Have you tried the yoga class?(你試過上瑜伽課嗎?)」——很適合提出建議或詢問經驗。

M: Have you tried that new cafe? Have you tried learning Spanish?
M:「Have you tried that new cafe?(你試過那家新咖啡店嗎?)」「Have you tried learning Spanish?(你試過學西班牙語嗎?)」

M: Opens up the conversation.
M:能把對話帶開。

J: And the last one we flagged, “keeps me + adjective.” Tom said, “Exercising with others keeps me motivated.”
J:最後一個是「keeps me + 形容詞」。Tom 說「Exercising with others keeps me motivated(跟別人一起運動讓我保持動力)。」

M: Like, “Listening to music keeps me calm,” or, “talking with friends keeps me happy.”
M:比如「Listening to music keeps me calm(聽音樂讓我保持冷靜)」或「talking with friends keeps me happy(跟朋友聊天讓我很開心)」。

J: See? These patterns are like building blocks. You learn them once and you can use them to talk about almost anything.
J:看到嗎?這些句型就像積木,學會一次就能拿來談各種主題。

M: It really does make starting and, you know, continuing conversations feel much easier once you spot these patterns. They pop up everywhere.
M:一旦你抓到這些句型,開啟與延續對話都容易多了。它們到處都用得到。

J: They really do.
J:真的如此。

J: So, I definitely encourage you to practice these. Try making your own sentences.
J:所以我很鼓勵你多練這些句型,試著自己造句。
