場景設定
小美和 Jack 在健身房運動後,一邊拉筋一邊聊天。他們開始討論「減肥到底是靠運動還是靠飲食?」

英文對話

Mei: I’m so tired after running 5 kilometers. Do you think exercise is the key to weight loss?
Jack: Honestly, I think diet is more important.
Mei: Really? But if I don’t exercise, I feel guilty.
Jack: True, but if you keep eating junk food, exercise won’t help much.
Mei: So you mean calorie control matters more?
Jack: Exactly. Exercise helps, but diet makes a bigger difference.
Mei: But K-pop idols work out a lot, right?
Jack: Yes, but they also follow strict meal plans.
Mei: Hmm, maybe I should focus on eating less sugar.
Jack: That’s a good start. Exercise plus diet is the best combo.
Mei: Sounds tough, but I’ll give it a try.

中文

小美:我剛跑完 5 公里,好累喔。你覺得減肥主要靠運動嗎?
Jack:老實說,我覺得飲食比較重要。
小美:真的嗎?可是如果我不運動,就會覺得有罪惡感。
Jack:沒錯,但如果你一直吃垃圾食物,運動也沒什麼用。
小美:所以你是說控制熱量更重要?
Jack:對啊。運動有幫助,但飲食影響更大。
小美:可是 K-pop 偶像不是都狂運動嗎?
Jack:是啊,但他們也遵守很嚴格的飲食計畫。
小美:嗯…那我是不是該少吃點糖?
Jack:這就是好開始啊。運動加飲食才是完美組合。
小美:聽起來很辛苦,不過我會試試看。

M: It’s that classic debate. And, you know, beyond just figuring that out, we really want to equip you today—give you the actual English words and phrases you need to talk about this confidently. We’ll use a, uh, pretty typical conversation as our guide.

J: Okay, so that conversation gave us a lot. Let’s pull out some useful vocabulary so you can use these ideas in your own conversations.
J:好,這段對話真的讓我們學到很多。我們來整理一些有用的單字,這樣你也可以在自己的對話中用上它們。

M: First, calorie. We hear this all the time. It’s, uh, basically a unit of energy from food.
M:首先是 calorie(卡路里)。這個詞我們常常聽到,它基本上就是食物中能量的單位。

J: Right. So you might say something like, “You should count your calories if you want to lose weight.”
J:對,所以你可以說像是:「如果你想減肥,應該計算自己的卡路里攝取。」

M: Or maybe understand them better.
M:或者至少要更了解它們。

J: Yeah, understand the source of calories.
J:對,要了解熱量的來源。

M: Then there was junk food.
M:然後是 junk food(垃圾食物)。

M: Everyone knows junk food.
M:大家都知道什麼是垃圾食物。

J: Pretty much.
J:基本上都知道啦。

M: It refers to food that’s, you know, high in calories but doesn’t offer much nutritional value. Like Jack said, eating too much junk food makes weight loss harder.
M:它指的是那種熱量高,但營養價值低的食物。就像 Jack 說的,吃太多垃圾食物會讓減肥變得更困難。

J: Then meal plan. What does that mean exactly?
J:再來是 meal plan(飲食計畫)。那到底是什麼意思呢?

M: It’s basically a structured eating schedule, like planning your meals ahead for a specific goal. “She follows a strict meal plan to stay fit.”
M:它其實就是一個有規劃的進食時間表,比如為了某個目標提前安排好每一餐。像是:「她遵循一個嚴格的飲食計畫來保持身材。」

J: And you used the word strict there. That came up with the K-pop idols too.
J:你剛剛用了 strict(嚴格的)這個詞。這個也有在 K-pop 偶像的那段對話中出現。

M: Right. Strict just means very disciplined, following rules closely. K-pop idols have strict diets and routines—not much flexibility there.
M:對,strict 的意思就是非常有紀律、嚴格遵守規則。K-pop 偶像的飲食和日常作息都非常嚴格——幾乎沒有彈性。

M: And May’s “feeling guilty.”
M:還有 May 提到的「感到內疚」。

M: That feeling of having done something wrong, or maybe not done something you should have. Like, “I feel guilty when I skip exercise.”
M:那種做錯事,或沒做應該做的事時的感覺。像是:「我沒去運動就會覺得很罪惡。」

J: And lastly, combo, short for combination.
J:最後是 combo,這是 combination(組合)的縮寫。

M: Exactly. It just means things working together. “Exercise and diet make a perfect combo.” Simple, useful word.
M:沒錯,它就是指幾個元素一起發揮效果的意思。像是:「運動跟飲食是一個完美的組合。」這個字簡單又實用。

J: Great words. And the conversation also had some really useful sentence patterns we can borrow.
J:這些單字都很棒,而且這段對話也有一些很實用的句型可以學起來。

M: Like Jack’s warning: “If you keep eating junk food…” It’s great for talking about ongoing actions and what happens because of them.
M:例如 Jack 的警告:「如果你繼續吃垃圾食物…」這個句型很適合用來描述持續的行為,以及可能帶來的後果。

J: So you could say, “If you keep practicing, your English will improve.”
J:所以你也可以說:「如果你持續練習,你的英文會進步。」

M: Perfect example. Then there was comparing importance with “~ matters more.” Jack said, “Diet matters more.”
M:完美的例子。然後還有比較重要性的句型:「~ matters more」,Jack 說:「飲食更重要。」

J: So you could use it like, for language learning, “Consistency matters more than studying for hours once a week.”
J:這句型也可以用在語言學習上,例如:「每週讀很久一次,不如每天穩定學習來得重要。」

M: And showing something isn’t very effective: “~ won’t help much.” Like, “Exercise won’t help much if the diet’s bad.” Or, “Just reading the words won’t help much if you don’t practice speaking.”
M:還有一個句型是用來表達某件事沒什麼幫助:「~ won’t help much」,像是「如果飲食不好,光靠運動幫助不大。」或是「只讀單字,如果不練習說,也沒什麼幫助。」

J: And for encouraging those first steps, Jack used, “~ is a good start.”
J:還有用來鼓勵第一步的句型:「~是一個不錯的開始。」

M: Like, eating less sugar is a good start. Or, learning 10 new words a week is a good start.
M:例如「少吃糖是一個好的開始」,或是「每週學10個新單字是個好開始」。

J: And finally, “~ makes a big difference” for showing a significant impact.
J:最後是「~有很大影響」這個句型,表示某事對結果有很大的作用。

M: “Switching to whole foods makes a big difference”. Or “practicing speaking every day makes a big difference”.
M:改吃原型食物會有很大的改變。或是每天練習口說也會帶來很大進步。

J: These patterns are super flexible.
J:這些句型真的超實用又靈活。

M: Thank you so much for tuning in and exploring this with us. We really hope you feel more prepared to chat about these things now.
M:真的非常感謝你今天的收聽,和我們一起探討這個話題。我們真的希望你現在更有信心可以用英文談論這些事了。
